About our Grass-fed Beef

We have grassfed beef for sale by the side or a half side.  We buy young beef cattle between 400 and 600 lbs, in the spring.  We put them on pasture about May 1. Our pastures are free from any herbicides, fungicides or insecticides. We divide the pasture into paddocks with moveable fences.  Every day we move the cattle to a new paddock so that they always have fresh grass to eat.  In addition to pasture we feed free choice kelp meal which is an organic supplement made from (you guessed it) kelp from the North Atlantic Ocean.  It is approved for certified organic farmers.  We also feed salt free choice in the form of a 50 lb salt block.  We feed water in a trough with a float from our own drilled well.  The kelp, the salt and the water follow the cattle from paddock to paddock.  Every two months we put an organic dewormer in the water for two days to control internal parasites (ie. stomach worms).  We don’t feed any grain or any corn silage.  In the spring we feed free choice hay to avoid loose stools.  If the summer is dry and grass supplies are low we feed hay till the pastures recover.

The cattle will weigh between 800 and 1000 lbs live weight when they go to the butcher in October or November.  Each animal should produce between 400 and 600 lbs. of dressed meat.
